A set of new Epson printers revealed this week included in “unlimited ink for a two-year program.” They are both ecotkank printers, which means they have a relatively easy rechargeable ink tank. The entire ecotank system is not fully new – this is just the latest set – but now they have made it for a while, and there is a “unlimited ink” program … maybe it’s time to look closer.
If you have used a printer in your home in recent decades, chances are you want to bash the printer with a baseball bat. Most printers need small ink cartridges that have relatively small inks and the cost of absurd money. You will most likely spend more in the ink than you have on the printer.
Epson started a new system in the past few years called the ecotank. Instead of using disposable ink cartridges, they have a tank. These tanks can be refilled with a bottle of ink – bottles effectively replacing parts of the equation that is usually provided for cartridges.
The tank is large. Ink lasts much longer than the most traditional printer at home. It seems like a pretty good setting.
The latest set of this printer includes the Ecotank Photo ET-8500 and Ecotank Photo ET-8550. Larger than both can print photos without limits up to 13 x 19 inches. Both of these printers can also work with media lines that are suitable to be signed by Epson and can print on other “special media” up to 1.3mm thick.
Epson this week also revealed the ECOTANK PRO ET-5150 and ECOTANK PRO ET-5170. Both of these printers are part of Epson “2 year ink assurance.” The only part of this program that seems negative is a little additional work you need to do: Register your printer with the Epson site, buy a bottle of ink in the first 2 years after purchasing a printer, and “Mail in Ink Receipt, Report on Printer Use History, Bottle Empty ink, and the form of the claim. “
Assuming you are the type of person who prints a lot of media in a period of 2 years, this is probably one of the best ways to roll with cost-effective ink.
